Last night I got my steps in, mostly wading around in Aldershot Lido which was both refreshing and good exercise. The canoe club meets on Wednesdays always but during the summer we host “come and try” sessions for local youth groups, such as cubs, scouts and so on. They last for an hour and a half like our main Wednesday sessions and we switch the groups around every 30 minutes, so that the kids and their adults get to try kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. The pool has a shallower section and a very deep area, the latter great for SUPs because you do tend to fall off them a lot!

We run the sessions with several volunteers to ensure first aid skills are present, plus the lido staff are there who’ve lifeguard training.

Last night I spent some time on a sit-on-top kayak keeping an eye on the boisterous kids! Offering a little instruction here and there. I’m soon doing proper training to run sessions.

Then in the end I gave my boat to a girl who’d chosen a very chunky kayak and she was struggling. So I thought mine would be better and it was, she whizzed off and was getting the hang of it.

I ended up wading around in the water with the other volunteers and we had a good old laugh watching some boys going around in circles despite us giving them some help.

They were having fun though!!!
