When @pennsif asked people to submit plans for 2020 to promote and enhance STEEM the first place that I looked was at the marketing side of things where we are obviously a long way off the pace.
I had already looked into the subject before the #steem2020 contest was announced and had posted my views on where we are falling down.
STEEM needs better media
After seeing the competition I put a more detailed plan in place that would involve a team running more active media presences on Facebook and Twitter.
Marketing STEEM on social media
While this is still a long way off it got me thinking about the effect that we could have on STEEM by pushing the brand more and showcasing STEEM to the world. My main account on Twitter is @niallon11 as well but I had never really used it before joining STEEM and only for promotion purposes since then.
What I did for this experiment was to set up a brand new account under @steem-info on Twitter and started posting interesting and important posts from STEEM to twitter.
I started the account at the end of September and only put out 1 tweet to test the account.
Stats from the account
September
- Tweets - 1
- Impressions - 277
- New followers - 0
October
- Tweets - 15
- Impressions - 8198
- New followers - 54
November
- Tweets - 30
- Impressions - 9919
- New followers - 20
Last 28 days
- Tweets - 40
- Impressions - 14200
- New followers - 55
It just goes to show what we could be doing more of. A brand new account just highlighting STEEM, it's apps, and some interesting user posts can gain 76 followers and ten's of thousands of impressions in just a couple of months.
Even more importantly are the link clicks that drive traffic back into steemit.com from 1 small account.
Small number for now but if the account had 100x more followers that number could be drastically multiplied.
This is from a starting point of zero and a lot of the followers are not even STEEM users.
People like Warren Whitlock with over 500k followers.
And Jaide Barclay with over 5k followers.
Another couple of users making huge effort on twitter are @theycallmedan and also
@stephankendal who has been pushing the "I ❤️ #Steem" Campaign.
Have a look at his latest post about it and pushing the campaign tweet up to half a million impressions on Twitter.
I ❤️ Steem" Social Media Campaign launch tweet has now reached nearly half a million Impressions on twitter
Pick the low hanging fruit and reach the easiest people first. Tech people, crypto people, bloggers, steem users are all on twitter and can generate views and interest through these tweets.
My #steem2020 post was based on using the steemit.inc accounts which already have large numbers f followers from the past few years but we can build from the ground up if needed. It will be slow and time consuming but it can be done with a few good people running a media campaign.
Feel free to follow either account on twitter to keep up to date with the latest news and share it around.
This was a trial to start with and see what could be done but I will keep it going for now and see if we can grow the account even more and spread the word.
