There is a reason that teams spend so much on sports phycologists these days. They have come to realize the importance of mindset to success. There is also the question of talent but an average team with the right mindset will normally beat a top quality side with the wrong mentality.
There are so many ways to look at it but hive is very similar to a sports team. We are all here training and working hard towards a common goal. If we succeed we will do it together. There are bigger projects out there, better funded projects out there and a lot of competition but very few that can match us for intent and purpose.
It might sound obvious but these simple traits can be so hard to get right with all of the distractions that face us on a daily basis.
I was reading an article from Psychology today for some light reading as you do, and found it very relevant.
When I talk about mindset, I mean what is going on in your head just before you begin a competition, whether on the field, course, court, track, what-have-you. What happens in your mind during that oh-so-important period sets the stage for whether you perform to the best of your ability.
If you turn up to write an article, write come code, learn new skills. Whatever it may be. Mindset will determine how successful you are with your plans.
I want to write an interesting article today.
Will I succeed??
That depends on a lot of factors. I could be lazy and not complete what I'm writing. I might not have the focus to find a topic in the first place. The Tv is here, phone, people, food.....distractions everywhere. If my focus isn't on the page then it's going to be very hard to finish anything of quality and worse, it will take a lot longer to create it.
Calm, clear and focused.
Know what I am trying to do. Have a plan and execute it fully.
That is a winning mentality.
you must focus on your desired mindset in practice and competitions to create that mindset. And, finally, you need repetition in practice and competitions to ingrain your ideal mindset so deeply that, when you begin the most important competition of your life, that mindset just clicks on and it enables you to perform your very best.
Then you need to do it so many times that it becomes second nature to you every time that you turn up to work.
That consistency which we see has such a powerful effect on your success with Hive. Turning up every day is the first step and then making the most of that time is the second.
If you can get that mentality right you will succeed. In any endeavor.
