Growing up, they used to tell us education was the key to success. But as I grew up I came to realise things were just different. I guess that all part of evolution. We were probably told education was the key to success so we would study hard because obviously, it鈥檚 not entirely the key to success.
People are out there with PhDs and more yet they鈥檙e not successful which means that there鈥檚 actually more to it than we think. I鈥檝e been in the educational system for so as long as I can remember because the Ghanaian educational system is structured such that once you start, the only rest you have is when you鈥檙e done which would be around after university which some people still further. I think this explains why they say we never stop learning. Maybe they should have made it, we never leave school.馃槀
I鈥檝e been taught so much in my educational life and that comprises so many things from different backgrounds. I mean what is that venn diagram I had to study in junior high school doing for me today? And to think that I even got beaten bed of some of these things makes me wonder who I offended in this life. I鈥檝e been taught a lot and I鈥檝e also learnt a lot both from my teacher, colleagues and my books.
But if there鈥檚 one thing school never prepared me, it鈥檚 for the outside world. I remember how I felt so nervous when I was completely the university two years ago. I low-key didn鈥檛 want to leave school because that would mean that I would have to face the outside world and only God knows where I would end up and how I would also handle it.
The first few months for me in the outside world was exhausting. It wasn鈥檛 my usual day with two lectures and about 6 hours of break with night time studies. I had a full blown job I had to show up for everyday, a 9-5 at that. Man, I was sleeping at 7pm because that life wasn鈥檛 for me. Then let鈥檚 talk about how it was to deal with people at work and the extra people you encounter on the daily basis. I mean it was great to be exposed to all those things but someone like me didn鈥檛 really have the energy for all of that. At the end of everyday, it felt like my soul was just drained and I just had to sleep to recharge it.
Well, maybe this is the moment they tell me that you learn from experience which I did.馃槀 Today, I work 24/7 and I鈥檓 not even bothered because I鈥檝e been trained for it. Life can be tough at times but in those tough moments, we build strength.
