Hey guys it’s another edition of the weekly featured posts and this time around we write about the first time we bought something on our own.
At some point in our lives we start to earn or make our own money and of course we have to make that first purchase. What we buy is entirely up to us and at the long run we’ll see if we did a good job or took a very horrible decision.
I was receiving allowances monthly so I had enough to save to cater for my basic need and relieved my parents of such responsibilities. They deserved it.
Fast forward I was in my first year in university and I had this android phone I was using. It was a very strong phone and I liked it very much. I used it for basically everything school related since I didn’t have a pc then. Most of our assignments were handwritten so I didn’t need to do much school work with my phone.
I then decided to start saving to get myself a new phone since I needed it badly. I purchased a savings box and started saving everyday. I limited my spending in order to meet my target.
One thing I didn’t do was starve myself. In as much as I needed to save, I also didn’t make myself suffer because I was saving. I invested in myself and kept myself healthy.
Finally, I managed to save enough to get myself a new phone. I wasn’t aiming to buy any expensive phone but rather a quality phone. I spoke to my elder brother about my saving and my plan to get a new phone. I gave him my savings so he could get me one since I didn’t want to get scammed. It will be a shame to go through all this and end up making a loss.
I gave him my savings and waited patiently for my phone. I was on campus then so he was to send it to me through a bus. I was called to pick up my parcel from the bus station. I picked up my parcel and returned to my hostel of residence.
To my surprise, instead of getting me an android phone my brother got me a brand new iPhone. Words can’t explain how happy I was. I called him and thanked him.
After getting a new phone I was able to work effectively as I was already introduced to hive. I’ve had the phone for a while and even though I was careless and got the screen cracked a bit it is still in good shape.
I don’t regret saving to get myself a new phone. I’m actually glad I did.
My very first purchase as you’ve just read is still serving me well and like I said in the beginning of my post about regretting or being happy with your first spend, I’m glad it’s the latter. I’m not sure I would be this excited and proud if my parents had just bought it for me. In the end it’s true what they say about spending your own money.
Thank you for reading.🙂
