Aside love, the next thing you can’t dazzle your way through is learning a new language. You’d agree with me that there are over a thousand languages on earth as it stands now because we have different tribes and even sub tribes in their tribes.

Here in Ghana, we have regions which have their capitals and in these capitals are so many ethnic groups co-existing with one another. Honestly, I would like to believe that they’re all still tribes and ethnic groups somewhere in Ghana that I have never heard of or even come into contact with. This makes me believe that there is always more to see and learn when it comes to this life of ours.

I grew up in the capital town of Ghana where we had so many people from all over the country and even other countries. In Accra, there are so many languages people speak just like in other regions. However, in every region there is a common dialect almost everyone can speak no matter where you are coming from. In Accra it was two and Ga. Even in other parts of the country I have come to find out that people speak twi. So, I’d believe twi is the most common language in Ghana.

It would surprise you to know that so many Ghanaians don’t know how to speak twi. And this is because some of them stay in places where twi didn’t spoken. I can speak about 5 languages and thsi is because I was exposed to them at a very tender age. I remember way back in primary school when we used to take French lessons. I mean, we all tried our best but the language never stayed with us aside the basics we all know.

I have been in another part of the country for over 6 years now and God knows I’m still trying to get a hang of their language. Currently, I’m able to understand people and form some sentences but I’d say I’m very far from saying I can speak the language with my full chest. Over there in the south also, people are struggling with learning my language which is twi. I’ve had people in the north go to the south and struggle with the language and Vice Versa and this is just in Ghana. Now, imagine being in another man’s country.

If i had to learn my own language all over again from scract, I believe it will take me quite a number of years to pull that off because i can speak so mamy languages today because i learnt them from the word go mostly due to proximity and exposure.

No language is easy but I believe early exposure as a child helps a lot. As an adult, learning a new language is possible but very difficult if you ask me. This doesn’t mean people are not able to do it. I’ve seen it done especially with our Duolingo warriors and people that have to learn other languages due to where they find themselves. My language is as difficult as any other language out there. But it can still be learnt and spoken.
