In Khmer, women keep their 'maiden' name by default, their kids however take up the husbands name. Because of the turbalent history in the last century for my country of heritage, people have often changed

Yes, that is true, we should say that! In Dutch we sometimes say jokingly: "we are 26 springs young!" but it's never serious. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I like how different languages
