Hello my fellow Hivian's馃槉
I greet you all with love and peace. I hope everyone is doing great and still pushing through this life journey with strength and hope. Today, I feel humbled and happy to share something deep and real from my heart about what my community has taught me and how it has shaped the person I鈥檓 becoming
Growing up in my community wasn鈥檛 always easy. It鈥檚 not a perfect place, but there鈥檚 something special about the people, the culture, and the way we look out for each other. If I want to summarize what my community taught me in one word, that word will be resilience
You see, we鈥檝e faced a lot together. From poor electricity supply to water issues, unemployment and even some level of insecurity. But in all this, I鈥檝e seen people rise above the pain with a smile on their face and hope in their hearts. I鈥檝e seen mothers who go out very early and come back late just to feed their family. I鈥檝e seen youths doing all they can, legally and honestly, to survive and support their parents. It taught me never to give up no matter what life throws at me
There was a time our street was badly flooded due to poor drainage. People鈥檚 homes were affected. I remember clearly one of my neighbours, Uncle Kunle, who woke up that day and gathered young boys in the area to help clean and redirect the water. Nobody paid him, nobody forced him. He just did it out of love for the community. That act of leadership and service moved something in me. It made me realise that leadership is not always about big titles or money it鈥檚 about serving others and doing what you can to make things better
Another thing I learnt is kindness. My people are kind hearted. We may not have plenty, but we share the little we have. There were days in my childhood when we had nothing at home to eat, but a neighbour would knock and bring food without even knowing our situation. Those memories stay with me and made me to always look out for others whenever I have the chance
From our cultural festivals and traditional events, I also learnt the value of unity and identity. We dance together, we cook together, and we laugh together. Those moments made me realise that even in hardship, joy can still be found when we stick together
So to every young person reading this, I just want to say: don't look you come from. Your community, no matter how small or unknown, has something valuable to teach you. Open your eyes, open your heart. You鈥檒l find strength, lessons, and motivation in the smallest of places
