Hello
Hive Learners Lovers !!
Today, I would like to share a thought with you and ask a question about it in this post. I have been wondering whether we truly have free will—meaning, can we make our own life decisions, or are we compelled to make all our choices within the confines of societal norms?
When we look at the world, we see rules everywhere—rules for school, home, and society. From childhood, we are taught how to conduct ourselves, what the rules are, and how to navigate life. We often find ourselves worrying about what society might say, so we avoid stepping outside these established boundaries; after all, I have often observed that those who do defy these norms face criticism. Society has bound us with rules for every situation and set limits on how far we can go. This raises a question in our minds: are we truly free to make our own decisions, or are our choices dictated by the rules society has created? It is a valid question, as society does play a role in shaping our decisions to some extent. While we are often constrained by certain limits, that does not mean we are incapable of making independent choices.
It is not as if society prevents us from making decisions. Society has set certain boundaries within which we must make our choices. For instance, early in life, we decide what we want to do and which field we wish to pursue; we identify our interests and determine how to apply them. We make these decisions ourselves; society does not stop us, meaning we possess the freedom to choose. While it is true that society establishes limits within which we must operate—and stepping outside them could lead to social ostracism or other consequences—we can still make our decisions and shape our futures while remaining within those boundaries. In this sense, the two concepts coexist; we possess free will and are fully capable of making sound decisions.
Conclusion
We are faced with two questions here: can we make decisions for ourselves, or has society set boundaries for us? I believe both perspectives hold some truth; while we do make our own life choices, we must make them within the framework of society. We possess a great deal of free will because, even within societal boundaries, we are free to make the decisions we choose. Therefore, I maintain that we do have free will.
Even I often cannot make certain decisions because I fear society. Any decision we make must fall within societal boundaries. For instance, when it comes to marriage, one has to consider caste; if a girl does not belong to our caste, we cannot marry her. While we are free to marry a girl from within our own caste if we like her, we cannot marry someone from a different caste. This example fits the topic well. However, we do have the full right to make decisions while remaining within societal limits; therefore, we have every right to make our own choices.
What do you think—is what I’ve written correct?
