With the launch, the complete map has been revealed but we will only be able to lock our spot in the map by exchanging our claim into deeds. However, details of our individual plots will remain unsurveyed until the next phase which is due early next year. The team has explain some details and tradeoffs in their recent blog post which leads us to consider what are the next steps. Without more information on how land will work, much will be speculation at the moment.
The upside is that we can now select pretty precisely where we want our land to be located. The development team has said that location should not be considered important as it will not have any connotations in terms of the economy or gameplay. All resources to be captured from land will be somewhat similar in utility so should not really impact the value of location. While traveling between lands will be a gameplay mechanic, location will also not be a positive or negative for those abilities.
From an asset perspective, the decision brings a challenge. When claiming a deed, the lands chosen will be illiquid for some time as they will not be able to be sold until the marketplace expands to include them. However, they will continue to earn SPS as they have for the last couple of months since the Proposal passed. Interestingly, price of land claims have come up in price as more players get excited about the concept of land. It may also continue as the drop of supply of land in the market could drive prices higher.
Therefore, we must make a decision to either claim our land when an interesting opportunity on the map occurs or to hold if we would be interested to sell if prices increase. My thoughts are that land utility will be a cornerstone to the ecosystem’s economy in the future and its price does not reflect it given the decline we have seen. As the development team consider to evolve lands in the coming year, I think it will bring the opportunity to create value again so I would be inclined to claim our lands and prepare for the development.
