I am definitely not famous on Hive or any other social media platform but I am pretty well known in my local parkrun circles. I have been showing up to theses free weekly timed events for more than twelve years now. I used to run with a club and also played a bit of football but was happy so see an advertisement for parkrun when it first started expanding in our area. It was a perfect match for me in this phase of my life. There was a lot less commitment and expensive than any thing else I had ever been involved with. It still felt like I was getting a fitness hit, as well as a bit of competition and getting to connect with some of my local community. They like it if you can help out with some volunteering from time to time. I have done most of the roles, they are all very easy but prefer pacing or course set up so I still get to run as well.
Just showing up week after week, year after year meant I got to meet and make friends with a lot people. There are quite a few people out there with better and bigger stats than mine but I am proud of all my totally arbitrary numbers that I have been able to collect so far. I am still keen to do more, it will be interesting to see if I can make it to 1000 parkrun events in the next 10 years. Being well known at my little local parkrun is about as famous as I would like to be.
