I remember Coomera well, I was injured carrying a dodgy ankle, it has happened a few times over the years. Usually, I don’t have to give up running completely to let it heal but I have to slow right down, shorten my stride and just take it easy. If I had to go to work on it and stand move on it all day during the week, I could not see the point of missing out on a parkrun stat. Especially since we were visiting my 74th different location. I think my ankle has been telling me to slow down and shorten my stride for a while maybe because I have got older and lost a bit of muscle strength. Changing my cadence and stride was easier said hen done but I think I have got it the hang of it now. I spend most of the week with a shorter faster stride then only stride out when trying to run fast.

Coomera is a newer suburb not that far from us halfway between the Gold Coast and Brisbane. It is just off the main highway so travelling early on a Saturday morning can be pretty easy to get there.

When I have a niggle or two, I also start at the back of the field to make sure I do not get exiting when the say Go!

Ha! I took a really wide arc at the u turn for the second lap trying to protect my ankle and not get in the way of others.

The course looks like a loop around the lake, but it is actually a double out and back. Clockwise around the lake then onto some board walk before heading up some concrete sidewalk and up a little hill. It was a clever use of the paths that were available without having to cross any roads. Coffee and toilets very close to the start line.
