Welcome to a new blog post from Art + Holozing. Today I’m drawing a male Forest Healer, so we can’t forget his short green hair bursting with color, along with his distinctive Healer uniform. We’ll also be using recycled materials. Join me on this creative journey.
For today's drawing, we'll be using a rectangle of recycled paper. It's not high-quality, but I think it will hold the colors well. I don’t have many colors, so I’ll have to improvise by mixing a few. As for white, I don’t have pure white, though I do have some school watercolors that include it. I’m not sure how it will blend with the paper and other colors, but I’ll test it on some small details. I don’t dare to make the entire uniform white, so I’ll go with blue instead. But before I start coloring, I’ll sketch a light draft using my mechanical pencil.
For the line art, I’ll be using a basic 0.5 office mechanical pencil—nothing fancy. I believe that more than the tool itself, what really matters at this stage is good focus and, above all, a steady hand to carefully trace over each part of the sketch. It’s incredibly satisfying when a line turns out perfectly, and almost heart-stopping when we make a mistake and have to find a way to fix it.
Now it’s time to start coloring, and I’ve run into a few obstacles—the colors don’t blend very well, and the paper is terrible for coloring. Since it’s recycled, it fragments quite a bit, but that won’t stop us. I’m absolutely loving how the hair is turning out. The other challenge will be adding white highlights with watercolor. I seriously need a white pencil, haha. But for now, the drawing is going well.
Now that all the coloring is done, it’s time to add white. The white will mainly go into the highlights of the hair and clothing, as well as in the eyes—which is the part I’m most concerned about. Since I don’t have a brush, I’ll have to apply it with the tip of a pencil. It’s a very small area, and any mistake could ruin the drawing or at least leave an ugly mark. So I hold my breath... and begin to draw.
Alright, deep breath—we’re safe! The white in the eyes turned out pretty well and I didn’t ruin my drawing. I also started working on the highlights in the hair and clothes, and I think it looks good in this close-up.
Bueno, respiremos tranquilos.
I really liked the final result—so much that I placed it in my favorite drawing folder. Above all, it’s a reminder that I don’t need many or fancy tools to create something I love. With patience and determination, we can make art using whatever we have at hand, and there’s always room to improvise. As for the character, I’m in love with the design and colors, so maybe I’ll create my own OC that’s also a Forest Healer. Thanks for being here and joining me for another drawing blog—bye bye!
¡Bye bye!
