Jason Momoa versus a big pharmaceutical corporation. Could it have gone wrong? Sweet Girl proves once again how much Netflix has problems with the entertainment cinema.

It is a drama with elements of an action fighter in the background that neither matter nor play a big role. There are several scenes that leave a lot to be desired in terms of production, because they do not allow the use of the potential hidden in history. The work of the camera in action is quite specific and can only be credited for trying to do it with some character. You can feel it especially in the first scene on the train. The problem is that the further you go, the creativity seems to disappear with the passing minutes. The next action scenes are quite hackneyed, boring and completely uninviting. You do not feel the energy that should drive the plot, and the great climax, due to the story development, is viewed with total indifference. In terms of realization, these scenes are without idea, and the choreography does not seem well suited to the actors. Thus, this aspect of Sweet Girl stands at an average level at best and is not able to pull the film off.

I have no doubts that many people will like the subject; especially in the present day of a pandemic full of conspiracy theories about pharmaceutical corporations. After all, in this movie it is a great evil alongside corrupt politics. On paper, it looks interesting: a woman dies due to the decision to withdraw a new drug, so the husband wants to take revenge by taking justice. If it were a typical action game based on such a banal theme and spiced up with good action scenes, it would be quite fun. Unfortunately, the creators imagined that they were making an important and wise film, but it ended only with intentions.

It's just hard to object to the actors, because both Jason Momoa and Isabela Merced leave their hearts here. On the one hand, Momoa creates an outfit that is typical of himself, but at the same time allows him to leave a lot of credibility on the screen with emotions that show him from a new perspective. The same can be said about Merced, who additionally has a great chemistry with Momoa, so their duo can be enjoyed. They work well together, building some real emotions on the screen. It is a pity that, with all the rest, it does not affect the overall picture and is the only small positive. Nobody else in this story creates anything on the screen other than a boring stereotype.

Sweet Girl is a typical movie with ambitions but no skills to put them into practice. As a result, the whole thing is a curious evil that plunges one of the more absurd twists you will see in the film in 2021. The effect is that it is not a pleasant entertainment, because despite the hearts of the actors on the set, the whole thing is boring, tiring, and when it comes to climax, it starts to laugh for reasons unintended by the creators.
