"You don't look like you're having a good time", I said as I handed a cup of the drink. She stood alone on the balcony watching everybody else enjoy themselves.
"Sorry but I don't take drinks from strangers", she said refusing it.
"Oh, it's not from me, your brother asked me to give you", I replied stretching the cup to her.
"My brother?"
"Yes, him", I said pointing to a guy standing in the corner talking to another girl.
"Well, in that case, thank you", she said collecting the cup from me.
"So is this what you usually do? getting drinks for people's sisters?", she asked.
"No, I was just heading this way and he asked I give it to you", I replied. "so how long are you in town for?".
"Just till next week, I have to go back to help my mom", she said.
"Wait, he said you were staying for a month", I questioned.
"If you knew that, why ask me?", she said defensively.
The atmosphere was already getting too tense for two strangers and she could tell. She took a slip out of her cup and watched as I stood there awkwardly.
"I'm sorry for the way I asked, I'm not just having a good time, plans changed so I can only stay for a week", she said.
"How come?", I asked.
"How come what?" she replied.
"How come you're not having a good time, everybody else is dancing", I replied, taking a quick glance at the party behind me. People were dancing and drinking, her brother was on the other side of the room still talking to the girl.
"I really don't like dancing", she said.
"Me too!", I exclaimed.
"So why are you here?", she asked.
"I have to be for my friends, including your brother who if I'm being honest, has completely forgotten he has a sister", I answered as we watched them kiss in the corner.
I wasn't expecting her to laugh but she did, just the confidence boost I needed. We walked around for a bit, making fun of everybody else at the party. She seemed smart and funny, I couldn't say the same for her brother. She walked down the stairs talking about how we'd be better off as chickens leaving in a carefree world, our humor complimented each other.
We got downstairs and she stopped a bus heading home.
"Aren't you going to wait for your brother?", I asked confusingly.
"I'm sure he can find his way home", she said as she entered the bus, "It was nice meeting you", she continued. I smiled and watched as the bus left hoping I would see her again.
"Dude, where have you been? I've been looking everywhere for you", her brother said to me rushing down the stairs.
"What do you mean? my sister is upstairs, I just left her now coming to look for you, she said you never gave her the drink", he replied.
I was confused, if his sister was upstairs, who did I just drop off? I followed him back to the party where he showed me his sister. I had been played, whoever I was talking to the entire night wasn't who I thought she was and worse, I didn't get her name or number and she took my drink.
I stood there trying to understand the whole situation and then I realized, I took the wrong Miss.
