I'm a totally different person from who used the when I was younger, I'm sure most people say this and not mean it but in my case, it's true. As we grow, we start to find where we fit in, the people and the environment that suit us and so this is why this prompt is good.
Comparing who you are today with your past, can you pinpoint that one thing that happened to you and totally changed your mindset and how you viewed life as a whole? That change that eventually led to who you are today. Tell us about that moment and what it taught you.
Sometimes all we need is a push, from a friend, from a family member, sometimes even from a complete stranger. When I was younger, I really didn't care about much. I'm big enough to own up to my mistake. I wasn't the best person to be with. Now that I think about it, I was rude, proud. Like I said, nothing really mattered. I still had friends though. One friend in particular was always calling me out, telling me the way I treated people was important. She was always there to keep me in check. She wasn't wrong then but I didn't know better. I thought life was going to be easy. Another thing was I wasn't close to God. I went to church with my parents of course but I wasn't one to carry my Bible and read. Everything changed when she died, car accident in 2015, sometime around Easter.
I wanted to do better. It first started like I was doing it in honor of her memory, I started trying to build a relationship with God, started treating people right. Helping people in need was now very important to me. Soon enough, it turned into a habit. It didn't just become a part of me, it became me, I hope you get what I'm trying to say.
I wanted to do all these now because I wanted to, not because someone told me too or because it's the right thing to do.
I look back now and I keep on thanking God for the kind of person I am now. I want to believe He keeps friends like her around to keep people like us in check.
Thank you Cynthia, I owe a big part of who I am today to you. I'm going to be the best version of myself.
