I was waiting for the storks to arrive and when they built the second nest so close to my work, I knew I will be stealing from my lunch break to watch them raising their chicks. Well, wish I could do it more often, but sometimes I couldn't leave the office all day long.
One day I just picked the camera and off me went outside the factory. The stork was seen from afar, but I was courious if there were babies. When I am arriving or leaving the work, I could see there is only one stork standing stlll, so there must be little ones and the other parent is searching for food. The nest was built next to a bridge and there I went.
Even though I was meters away from the stork, who was high above on the concrete structure, I still crop the images.
First I was at the bird's right side and then I took the pictures from the other side.
The beak is covered with dry mud. It was raining for days, so my guess is this one was digging in the fields or puddles when all was wet and muddy to feed and bring food for these two little ones.
The stork nest is perhaps the biggest, always on the open platform. The mother, or the father (I am not sure how they share their chores) is standing above the babies to protect them from the scorching sun. When it rains, the wings will be spread and will keep them dry. How much devotion birds show, when it comes to raising their chicks. Well, not all of them. You know about the cuckoo laying her eggs in other nests and leave them to be hatched and looked after by foster parents.
Our stork got two babies from what I saw. They are too small to stand up. The white storks are distinguished by their long red beaks. The young birds have short and black.
The white stotks build nests close to humans. Of course there are many in the wild too, but choosing to be in villages and small towns, gives us a perfect opportunity to monitor and observe them. Quite dangerous thougn are the high voltage electric poles and electric companies put additional wooden platforms to help the birds to build their nest safe.
One last look at the family and back in the office.
I will keep on watching them anytime I could and I hope to show you later the fledglings.
