Ranup Lampuan dance is one of the traditional dances originating from Aceh. This dance including a welcoming dance that is usually performed by a female dancer by presenting betel as a receipt of society. Ranup Lampuan dance is one of the most well-known traditional dances in Aceh, and is often shown to welcome honorable guests as well as other traditional greetings.
According to some existing historical sources, Ranup Lampuan Dance has undergone several changes to become like the present form. This dance was originally performed by several female dancers accompanied by orchestral or band music. In 1959 Ranup Lampuan dance was modified by adding 3 male dancers, consisting of 2 guards using a sword and one vandel holder.
