Hey guys!
In today鈥檚 video I wanted to showcase a little restaurant in the city of Udon Thani called Baan Mai Khao.
The owners are friends of my aunt and I was lucky enough to meet them during my Songkran, water festival adventure, hence the powder all over my face at the start of the video! On meeting them my intention wasn鈥檛 to film their restaurant. But as conversations got on, the topic of me creating videos came up and they asked if I would be interested in sharing their little passion with the Steemit and Dtube world. I happily agreed.
Unfortunately my phone had died so some of the footage was lost and the remaining was recorded on my aunts phone. Although completely unprepared, I still wanted to share this with you. In the moment it felt so special knowing I could help share their joy and creation. I鈥檓 so thankful that I can use this platform not only for myself but for the benefit of others.
The two storey Baan Mai Khao building is 60 years old. It has been well maintained during that time, with photos in the restaurant that show the buildings progression over the years.
The restaurants intention is to accommodate all walks of life. It can be a social environment for younger people, family friendly for those with children and relaxed and comfortable for elderly customers.
Baan Mai Khao offers both traditional Thai and American style cuisine. The ingredients used for the meals are grown on the property. The growing of fruit and vegetables are focused around permaculture and sustainability to produce the most organic product.
The combination of earthworms, chicken poop and any food scrapes and wastage are used to go back into creating fertiliser for all the gardens. The goal is to have as little wastage as possible leaving the property.
There is a chicken farm that produces fresh eggs for the restaurant as well as a hydroponic system and a space for cultivated mushrooms.
For me it鈥檚 been a rarity to find places like Baan Mai Khao in Thailand. What struck me was their desire to share how simple it is to be sustainable and produce good organic foods. Not only that, the owners are of such a loving and kind nature!
So if you are in the city of Udon Thani be sure to check them out!
