I’m a physical painter, and I really enjoy trying new things and painting on different surfaces, not just canvas.
When I decided to paint this portrait, I really wanted to try it on a slice of wood. I thought it would be interesting to see how the painting would look and feel on a natural surface instead of a traditional canvas.
The wood was quite rough and had many small holes, so I started by sanding it to make the surface smoother. After that, I applied two coats of clear lacquer, allowing each coat to dry completely before applying the next one. I wanted to prepare the wood properly before starting the painting.
Once the surface was ready, I started painting the portrait with oil paints. Painting on wood was a little different from what I’m used to, and I enjoyed discovering how the paint worked on this new surface. I think every material has its own character, and that makes the painting process a little different each time.
After finishing the portrait, I let it dry and then applied a layer of varnish to protect the painting and give it a finished look.
This was a new and enjoyable experience for me. I love working with my hands, trying different materials, and learning something new with every painting. For me, painting is not only about the final result. I also enjoy the whole process, from preparing the surface to adding the final touches.
I hope to experiment with more surfaces in the future and discover new ways to bring my paintings to life.😊🎨🖌
