The drummer plays an important role in music. The drum is one of the most traditional musical instruments in the history of mankind.
Among the percussion instruments, the drum is the most popular in musical groups. This instrument is made up of a set of drums of various sizes, which together with some cymbals create combinations of sounds so varied that can accompany musical genres such as rock, jazz, reggae, blues and pop.
Given this brief introduction, I would like to present some great drummers (Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Carl Palmer and Simon Phillips), in three amazing live performances within the Three Tunes Tuesday initiative suggested by 
In 1909 was born in the city of Chicago Gene Eugene Eugene Bertram Krupa a pioneer drummer in the Jazz, swing, dixieland, big band genres. He was a precursor of all modern drummers for his style, energy and technique and also, the first to make solos with this instrument, he was called the drummer of the Swing era.
He had a great personality and style, helping Benny Goodman's band to reach more innovative levels. He has been revered by Neil Pearl (Rush) Keith Moon (The Who), Ian Paice (Deep Purple), Carmine Appice (Vanilla Fudge), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath), and Max Weinberg (The E Street Band), among others.
Buddy Rich was born in the United States in 1917 in Brooklyn (New York), many label him as the best drummer in history. He began his musical career as a drummer in vaudeville, and later dedicated himself to dancing and singing. He is undoubtedly an emblematic drummer of jazz, swing and bop music, an icon of the big bands.
In his performances one could observe the energy and skill he had with his instrument, thus becoming a legend of jazz and swing.
Buddy Rich performed alongside Count Basie, Artie Shaw, Harry James, Dizzy Gillespie, Benny Goodman, and even Frank Sinatra among others.

Carl Palmer was born in Birmingham, England, in 1950. He comes from a musical family; his grandfather played drums, his grandmother was a symphony violinist and his father had a dance band.
He has been drummer of the groups Atomic Rooster, The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown, Emerson, Lake And Palmer and Asia. In the 21st century he founded his own Carl Palmer Band and currently presents a controversial tour of Emerson, Lake & Palmer (ELP), with images of his deceased former band mates, being the only living member of the famous progressive trio.
Watching this video, the influence of Krupa and Rich on Carl Palmer's drumming is more than evident.
In May 2011 I had the pleasure of attending a show of the group Asia here in the city of Caracas, in which Carl Palmer gave a drum lesson, with a great technique and an elegant style, to see what he did was something very impressive, and indelible for my memory.
Hydra by the band Toto, is a total progressive rock song that can be found in the second album of the band from 1979, and precisely called Hydra. Originally it lasts more than seven minutes, with time changes at every moment. The track features the drumming of Simon Phillips, a renowned drummer of rock, jazz fusion and even heavy metal.
Simon Phillips was born in London in 1957, and began playing drums at the age of twelve. He played in a Dixieland Jazz band, (with many brass instruments and improvisations), for four years. He then played pop and rock music in a production of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, and served as session drummer for Peter Gabriel, Gil Evans, Jeff Beck, Stanley Clarke, Pete Townshend, Phil Manzanera, Brian Eno and Frank Zappa.
Other artists with whom he shared his work were Judas Priest, Jeff Beck, Michael Schenker, Mike Rutherford, Big Country, Davis Gilmour, Gary Moore, Nick Kershaw, Jon Lord, Mike Oldfield, The Who, and Hiromi Uehara.
In the nineties he moved to the city of Los Angeles and has been part of the group Toto since 1993 leaving the band in 2014.
For me, he is one of the best drummers and accompanying musicians today.
