During outdoor activities, I religiously integrate education, especially for my child's weaknesses. It can be a 2-way process which is crucial for the development of my RM in her academics and to me as her mother. I seldom do some follow-up with my child at home. Being a teacher by profession and teaching at public school can be energy-draining thus, I find ways to fill in the needs of my child in her studies.
In this blog, I'm going to share how I address my child's poor performance in her Math subject.
She has been showing her unwavering determination to connect with nature. She started to love adventurous trips and explored into different wonders of Cebu's North, East, and West when she was seven. Her eagerness to discover different wonders never stops and has just shown that as she grows every day her heart shows that she is truly an explorer.
However, behind her authentic smile is the frustration in mastering the multiplication table which should not be taken for granted. This is truly challenging to her and she should have mastered this since she is in the fourth grade now. I'm a little bit disappointed about her poor performance in Math but never did I pressured her.
As a determined mother, I figured out an effective strategy that would work effectively. Since we love adventure every weekend, as we embarked on our itineraries I diverted her attention and focused on this challenge. Turning adventure into fun learning. I know this will work, this may not be learned quickly but the gradual process can be substantial.
While we rode on our scooter, I introduced her to how to recite the multiplication table into a recital tune. Little by little, she has drawn herself into the rhythm and the catchy melody. Gradually, she absorbed Math and at the same time was having fun facing the wonders that surrounded our way.
Her enthusiasm for immersing herself in the different wonders of the world helped her into a love for Math now. Who would have thought that this would bring eagerness and motivation to conquer her frustration in Multiplication? This lifelong process of learning is never-ending. She did not just achieve one of her goals to love Math but also relished the goodness of nature.

I have seen how beneficial this gradual and consistent practice is to my child. No need to hurry. This step-by-step process during our trip bridged learning to be manageable and at the same time, she was having fun. After being triumphant, the positive reward is achieved profoundly. To be traveling every weekend is her best option.
No matter how long it takes to memorize, what matters most is that in the end, with her consistency and through my support, RM was able to practice perseverance. Her learning through her journey continues and grateful for the success after all.
In this way, there is joy in learning as discovery continues. I'm so glad to know that she is improving in Math now.
