I hope everyone is well. Today I want to share with you a sweet and funny love magic story called The ExHex. The author is Erin Sterling, who actually uses the pseudonym Rachel Hawkins. The book was first published on September 28, 2021, by Avon Publishing, a paranormal romance of approximately 320 pages 📖.
The Ex Hex starts with a sorrowful young witch called Vivi Jones at the age of 19. Her first love was Rhys Penhallow, Welsh Wizard who was very powerful. Vivi feels lonely, abandoned and angry when Rhys tells her that he has to go back to his family responsibilities. In one of the fits of rage and drunkenness, together with her cousin Gwyn she and Rhys carry out a mischievous little hex, and she thinks that it will only cause her ex-boyfriend some inconveniences e.g. always smelling bad shampoo, unsuccessful love life, etc.
🧙♂️ Nine years on, Rhys comes back to Graves Glen because he has been assigned the responsibility of recharging the magical ley lines hidden under the town. It is the Penhallow family that founded the town and Rhys is to restore the magic of the town through a traditional festival. When they get back to the town, however, weird events start taking place. Rhys is enclosed with a chain of accidents, mysterious forces, and magical backfires which include a flying talking cat, ghostly happenings, and an avalanche of forgotten items.
🏠At first sight, the reunion between Vivi and Rhys is more awkward. Both are helplessly dealing with their grief and wrong choices in the past. But when they both come to the realization that the funny hex by Vivi is the reason that Rhys faced such an ill situation, they join hands to bust the hex. They dig through the town history and magic history and come to a conclusion that the hex is even worse than it seemed to them at first. That small curse has upset magical balance in town and has revived the spirit of the past.
👻 During their investigation, they come to know that an old spirit, Piper McBride, who was killed earlier due to a false case and wronged her, has woken up now. This spirit desires to get into possession of all power in the town of Graves Glen so that it could get its revenge. With the help of the ley lines of Rhys, Piper is becoming more powerful and the city is moving towards an excruciating threat.
💖 Vivi and Rhys are attracted to one another under this threat. Bad decisions and failure to be in full communication with each other in the past are past issues that are not longer a barrier between them. Rhys discovers that despite the fact that he has always tried to forget Vivi, he never could, and Vivi gets an awareness that Rhys is not merely a component of his life, but he is also an aspect of his magic. They even start a different kind of relationship and become more sensitive.
✨ During the last phase, Rhys and Vivi target to put an end to the spirit of Piper in unison. They and some other magical friends of Gwyn in the town employ ancient rites and power of the ley line to soothe the spirit of Piper permanently. Meanwhile, the curse over Rhys is totally lifted. All during the festival, things become normal, and the magical balance in the town is attained again.
🌹 By the end of the story Rhys makes a decision that he never is going to come back to Wales. He spends the rest of his life there in Graves Glen, developing together with Vivi and the town, starting a new life. Vivi and Rhys are hopes to create not only love, but magical future with each other. The future also provides Gwyn with a new story [as a third book called The Kiss Curse is published as a sequel to it.
📚 The Ex Hex - My learnings, experiences and opinions..
One of the things that I noted in the book The Ex Hex by Rachel Hawkins is that magic is never supposed to be employed on an emotional basis. The beautiful thing about this story is that, a tiny hex or curse made in jest may trigger huge catastrophes in the future. When Vivi hexes her boyfriend Rhys when she is young, she believed that it was all fun. However, in the book we are able to come opinions.ow the fun disrupts magic balance of the town.
🔮 I managed to laugh and be surprised reading this book. The story was light and at the same time mysterious due to the old love fight between Rhys and Vivi, the magical events in the neighbor town, and the jokes of Gwyn. At a given moment, I had the impression that I was in the movie on Halloween- it is full of flying cats, ghosts, and sweet love.
❤️ As an individual, I believe that The Ex Hex is a fantastic romantic -comedy-fantasy book. This is ideal to the people who enjoy a light magic, love and fun tale. The book moves forward very fast, the people in it are vibrant and the plot is quite enjoyable. Despite the fact that it was my feeling at least a few times that it was somewhat too light in this and that bit, overall, the book gave me some sort of a magical impression.
The Ex Hex is not only a love story, it is a story of friendship, of making bad choices and getting forgiveness and other chances. This book brought to my mind that not even the magic that can teach you lots of good in life is fun.
