And welcome once again to my blog, over the years as intern and a student at the eye clinic i noticed that most often than not doctors had some difficulties conveying important messages to patients because of the gap in knowledge and the fact that a lot of patients have little to no idea about what they are talking about. So today am going to introduce you to parts of the eye, the purpose of this sequel is to enable on be able relate just a little better when your optometrist tries to tell you something important.
We are going to look at the external part of the eye and some basic functions you can easily relate to. So without wasting much time, lets dive into it.
The eye brow is considered a part of the eye due to the function it plays in protecting the eye. It is located above the eye and has the function redirecting liquid on the face away from the eye in the situation where these liquids may be detrimental to the eye.
These are the smooth skin that one can touch upon closing their eyes and trying to touch the eyes. They have muscles in them that help them execute the function of closing the eye (blinking) and the fastness contribute to the function of the eyes lashes.
Almost every single person on the planet can identify what and where the eye lashes are, it is those long hairs that stretch out when you close your eyes and they help the eye by trapping foreign bodies that otherwise wants to make its way to your eye.
This is a transparent membrane that is one the eyeball and also covers the inner lining of the eye lid. It has lots of blood vessels that contribute to provision of nutrients to the external eye. It is responsible for what we see in red eyes.
It can be look at as a transparent layer in the middle of the external eye, it is the black part when you are looking directly at someone although the blackness is as a result of the hole in you eye called the pupil. Looking at the cornea you would see the blackness surrounded by the Iris which gives one his eye color. So to get this well when looking at the cornea you see the pupil and iris, the pupil is black because is a whole into the eye and the iris is colored surrounding the hole due its melanin.
Cornea refracts light for us to see, pupil and iris regulate the light that enters the eye, this is done with the help of the muscles in the iris.
This is the white part of the eye that is seen when looking at someone. It become yellow in jaundiced conditions and may be seen blue in babies sometimes due to its thinness at that time. It gives elasticity to the eye.
So thus is what we have for today hope you enjoyed it, we will be learning more about the eye as time goes on so you can easily relate with your optometrist. However; it is important to always report all ocular cases to your optometrist as soon as possible.
