This morning when I woke up and had some time for myself, I started thinking about all the things I had to do during the day, always thinking and making plans as every mom does, but there was something that stole my attention, brought a smile to my face and filled my day with happiness. It may be that when I tell you, you may feel that it is something insignificant but for me it meant a lot, a before and after in my life, my biggest reason for joy.
After brushing my teeth and putting the toothbrush in its place, there was something that caught my attention, there were not two toothbrushes as there had been for 13 years, now there was a small toothbrush next to ours, since my 12 month old baby also brushes his six teeth, that scene touched my heart, I remembered all the years that my husband and I were alone without imagining that at some point that little person who already calls me mom would come to brighten our lives. Now our family has three members and those toothbrushes next to each other reminded me of that and I almost died of tenderness.
Sometimes I have had so many things to do during the day that I rarely have time to think about the fact that I am already a mom and I feel like the happiest woman in the world for having two people who love me and the youngest one cries and looks for me if he doesn't find me near. Being needed like this makes you feel loved, I do my best not to miss any moment of my baby and to love him with all my heart. He feels all that love from his parents, when we go out in the street people have told us how happy he looks and the confidence he feels, it is as if he is sure that we are always taking care of him and that we are not going to leave him. When he sees someone he gives them a beautiful smile that makes the saddest or most worried person pay attention to him and smile too.
I do not say that when I was not a mother I was unhappy, my life was normal and my husband day by day with his witticisms and his affection made it more beautiful, but since I found out I was pregnant was a constant happiness, we had problems sometimes economic, sometimes I got sick or even had scares with some test that did not go as expected but that never overshadowed the happiness we felt with the arrival of our baby. Being a mother is the most beautiful thing that could have happened in my life, an experience that I thought I would never live, that is why I am so grateful to Jehovah God for my little miracle.
While I was looking at those toothbrushes in the morning I could not help but remember that a year ago I was in the hospital with my baby, seeing him every three hours to breastfeed him and being afraid, very afraid of losing him, now he even has his little teeth and is with us making our lives happy. That experience we lived when he was born is unforgettable, the fear we lived day by day was paralyzing, it made me go to sleep and wake up when the nightmare was over, but in spite of that, the wonderful moments I lived when I saw his eyes for the first time in that incubator, when I changed his diaper for the first time, putting my hands through those two holes in the incubator, I don't know how I did it, but I managed to do it, I don't know how I did it but I did it, that first day and the other days he was there, when I held him for the first time six days after he was born and when I breastfed him for the first time, those memories make all the unpleasant things insignificant compared to all the love I felt for my baby since the first day I saw him.
November last year brought me many lessons, I never imagined what women went through when their babies were hospitalized, now I can understand them and I have even been able to help some of them and give them comfort and hope. The extreme physical and mental exhaustion of these women are not an impediment for them not to do the impossible for their babies. Nothing can surpass the love of a mother who risks even her physical health for the well-being of her baby. After thinking and thinking about that month that my baby was hospitalized, I feel immensely grateful because day by day I can enjoy his beautiful smile. Thank you very much for reading me, I will be attentive to your comments.
