Safety Tips #2 : Hand and Finger Safety

Good morning team. Today I want to give you few tips to keep your hands and fingers safe.

Our hands are so important that it can easily pass for the most important part of our body. Think of all the nice things you can do with your hands and think of how you will feel not been able to do those beautiful things anymore should you loose your hands or fingers.

Without your hands you can't type blogs on Steemit, you can't lace up your child's shoe, you can't count money, you can't do alot of the nice things in life that you are doing now. So... Keep those precious hands safe always by taking good care of them.

#1. WATCH OUT FOR PINCH POINTS.
Before placing your hands and fingers on hazardous spots, first engage your brain. Ask yourself: "how can I get hurt by placing my hands on that spot? ". Train yourself to recognize pinch points.

#2 DO NOT WORK ON ENERGIZED EQUIPMENTS. Ensure to de-energize equipments with moving parts before working on them. You must ensure to put in place, proper Lock out and Tag out(LOTO) Procedures. Working on moving equipments is a high risk activity and could be really hazardous to your hands and fingers.

#3 BE MINDFUL WHEN CLOSING DOORS.
Always Keep hands and fingers clear of door edges. Paying attention to what you are doing will help prevent this. Close and open doors using door handle and not edges. Remember to watch for children’s fingers when closing car doors.

#4 BEWARE OF HOT SURDACES
Be careful not to place your hands on too cold or too hot surfaces, cold surfaces can lead to frost bite while hot surfaces can lead to burns. If unsure of the temperature and you must use your hands, first feel the surface of the object using the back of your palm.

#5 USE KNIVES SAFELY
While using knives in the kitchen, use chain gloves if possible. Avoid distractions else you might chop off your finger.
