How about Hivers, almost closing day 16th in this Not So Ordinary Ordinary Items Challenge and I'm trying to hold it steady. Today I have been a bit melancholic, wrapped in thoughts that sometimes lead me down paths that are difficult to travel.
I've been counting the past, the people who come and go, people entering and leaving as if this room was always set up for parties.
When you attend a celebration you don't care too much if at the end you have to pick up all the mess; you just arrive, entertain, enjoy and leave. And it seems that my life has been a bit like that, a party room. I know not to look back, that we must live for now and that tomorrow does not exist; however it is inevitable sometimes to look back.
Perhaps it was the poetry of @ceciliajess (Loneliness) or the text of
@thatkidsblack (peak-end weekends) that connected me with the object that I bring you today: a small coffee pot full of dust and spider webs, that I hardly look at, because it is in a corner of the living room of my house, and that comes to be something like a Lost and Found.
Dice, coins from anywhere, screws, some fat grease, beads from a necklace, a glass ball taken from the spout of a bottle, a slipper from a faucet... lots of little things that rolled around the house and ended up lost inside that dark and cold hole. I am not interested in numismatics, so why didn't I give them to someone who is? Someone left those coins here. And the coffee pot, in fact, was a gift that I once considered a relic, because it is made of silver and it is my favorite metal... and also because of the moment in which it was given to me.
That's why I took these photos.
The dice in the party room, bumping into each other, tempting fate; some coins absorbing the glitter of others, the larger ones, cornering the smaller ones.... the other things, the plastic, the too ordinary, a screw, go figure, pulled from where, were... or maybe they will be useful at some point, but honestly, there are other, better places for them.
I look at these things and I can almost see myself on that stage. When the show is over everything goes back to its place, to the darkness, to the cold of the coffee pot and to the forgotten little place in my living room at home.
Maybe I will dare to polish it these days so as not to play the game of melancholy, of idleness, of that overwhelming passage of time that leaves no room for foolishness, for embarrassment. I say it to myself with force, with viciousness, even: it is not necessary to stay like that, beaten, nor surrendered, it is necessary to be reborn. Once lost, yes, but now and always found.
