My dad died recently and I wrote this piece to eulogize him.
ODE TO MY FATHER
There are many stories in the fatherhood history of our world. Most are lost - scattered in the winds of time, beyond the memory of mankind. But this story, your story of impassioned service and sacrifice, will never be forgotten.
Your progeny and posterity will sing your praise from the jaws of the legendary drum for as long as we eternally strike from dawn to dusk.
If they ever write a ballad about my stay on earth, let them say I was the son of Joseph Aheto Mawuena; an epitome of humility and greatness, restorer of faith and silencer of vicious voices of adversaries with his godly legacy.
If this ode ever gets to heaven's reach, do let your soothing voice echo down the earth. Till then, may your soul rest in peace. We will meet again in paradise's embrace! Fare thee well.
Darkness has sung a lullaby to lull the candellight into an eternal sleep. And so we mourn, singing our dirge with tears of joy.
