These green dots on the sidewalks around the neighborhood magically appeared recently. With no explanation we had to guess. Alien doo-doo was ruled out rather quickly. As was a new kind of hopscotch and a green slime creature.
What they really are are dollar signs in disguise. Within about ten days the letter came....from the city. Each square with a green dot needs repair. Basically explaining each green sidewalk dot will cost you. Sidewalk rehabilitation they call it. I call it a fancy rip off.
The info packet is extensive. Covering options.....do it yourself or use city contracted city contractor.
Costs, all the way down to square foot.
The police have their two cents worth. Parking. Big deal here in Oshkosh....2 pages worth
There copies of ordanances and city codes. Two pages if those, too. But this pink one....says they are trying to find a way not to have to charge us. They will update us later. Yeah, right.
So. The best part if this is only one of these green dots is on our property. The neighbor got pounded.
I have a problem with this costing the homeowners. They are called public sidewalks because the public uses them. But when it comes to shoveling and, apparently, repairs, it is the owners responsibility. Fines may apply if codes not followed.
In addition we all pay property taxes for infastructure, such as public sidewalks. The property the public sidewalk is on is included in the square footage I pay personal property tax on. Is it personal,or public? Guess it depends on the cost.
And what if the guy in charge of dispensing green dots is pissed off at something the day he does your neighborhood and hits every square he wants? The contractor might even pay the guy on the side to use as much green paint as possible! You never know. Lol
