As most of us know, people who are good at gardening are said to have a "green thumb". I grew up with a mother who was one of those types of people. She could make just about anything grow. Her garden was always colorful with fresh fruits and vegetables, and sometimes people who were driving by our house would stop just to tell my parents how nice our garden looked.
And some of the women who stopped by would admire my mom's beautiful bed of red zinnias and they would ask her if she would give them a part of the plant so they could put it in their own flower gardens. They would always ask her how she got the flowers to grow to look so healthy and vivid like that. It was simply because she was born with a green thumb.
