"I Cut You In..."

En esta publicación no quiero relatar el origen de este género tan especial dentro del terror, quiero más que nada mi experiencia como aficionado al cine y porque me gusta este tipo de historias; en un principio cuando era niño tenía mucha curiosidad por ver cualquiera película de terror, pero se me hizo imposible porque era muy miedoso, mis hermanos mayores me incitaban a ver cualquier película, sea de posesiones demoniacas, de zombies o en donde aparezca un asesino sobrenatural y es que a mediados de los, la mayoría de películas de terror eran de este tipo aunque siempre pensé que las que siempre pasaban en televisión eran las del género slashers; a pesar del miedo, pude ver películas como: Friday the 13th (4.ª y 5.ª parte), Halloween (2.ª y 4.ª parte) y A Nightmare on Elm Street (1.ª, 2.ª y 3.ª parte); justamente después de ver estas tres películas en donde el personaje principal era Freedy Krueger, fue que deje de ver películas de terror, pero el mismo director que creo a uno de los mejores antagonistas dentro de este género, hablo de Wes Craven quien junto al guionista Kevin Williamson crearon una historia que se volvió fundamental, una gran ayuda para que pudiera disfrutar las películas de horror en especial los Slashers y es que SCREAM es lo sumamente informativa y a la vez “meta” porque de tantas referencias a muchos films de terror hace que tengas la necesidad de revisar proyectos fílmicos que influenciaron en Williamson al momento de escribir esta historia.

In this publication I don't want to tell the origin of this special genre within horror, I want more than anything my experience as a movie buff and because I like this kind of stories; at the beginning when I was a child I was very curious to see any horror movie, but it was impossible for me because I was very scared, my older brothers encouraged me to see any movie, whether of demonic possessions, zombies or where a supernatural killer appears and in the middle of the, most horror movies were of this type although I always thought that those who always passed on television were the slashers genre, despite the fear, I could see movies like: Friday the 13th (4th and 5th parts), Halloween (2nd and 4th parts) and A Nightmare on Elm Street (1st, 2nd and 3rd. 3rd parts); just after seeing these three movies where the main character was Freedy Krueger, I stopped watching horror movies, but the same director who created one of the best antagonists in this genre, I'm talking about Wes Craven who together with the screenwriter Kevin Williamson created a story that became fundamental, a great help for me to enjoy horror movies, especially the Slashers, and SCREAM is extremely informative and at the same time "meta" because so many references to many horror films make you have the need to review film projects that influenced Williamson at the time of writing this story.

“Scream” con sus reglas para sobrevivir, reglas para la secuela, reglas sobre lo que puede suceder en una trilogía y demás, creo que debería ser una película obligatoria para quien desee ver por primera vez este género del cine; yo he disfrutado de esta franquicia y eso me ha hecho volver a ver películas que antes no podía verlas, por ejemplo, “Halloween” de Carpenter, para mi esta es la perfecta película slasher y aunque ya existía otros films con las características de este género, no tengo duda que lo hecho por Carpenter, tanto en dirección, guion y música, elevó aún más el nivel para realizar este tipo de films, un nivel que siempre he creído que está muy lejos para otros creadores en donde deben ver esta historia hecha en 1978, para saber qué hacer y que no en un film slasher. Películas como Halloween o The Texas Chain Saw Massacre dieron la principal idea de crear poderosos protagonistas que lideren este tipo de historias y es que tener a un poderoso, cruel, vil y despiadado antagonista contra en principio feliz, divertida, pero víctima que deberá evolucionar y convertirse en una inteligente, fuerte y decidida sobreviviente es lo que más valoro dentro de este tipo de historias, para mi este es la principal regla que debe tener estos films para ser un éxito, después existirán los otros personajes que podrán caer bien o no, en que solo esperas a ver sus muertes en una gran escena y así aplaudir el trabajo del asesino en turno y es que estos personajes secundarios también son importantes, los enamorados, el nerd, el cómico, la chica sexi, el anciano que da miedo y que aconseja no ir al lago en la noche, saben son esos personajes que no deben fallar en este tipo de historias porque ayudan justamente al desarrollo de una simple historia, ayudan a evolucionar y hacer conocer a los dos protagonistas principales en este tipo de films.

"Scream" with its rules for survival, rules for sequel, rules about what can happen in a trilogy and so on, I think it should be a must see movie for anyone who wants to see this genre of cinema for the first time; I have enjoyed this franchise and it has made me go back to see movies that I couldn't see before, for example, "Halloween" by Carpenter, for me this is the perfect slasher movie and even though there were already other films with the characteristics of this genre, I have no doubt that what Carpenter has done is the perfect slasher movie, I have no doubt that what was done by Carpenter, both in direction, script and music, raised even more the level to make this kind of films, a level that I have always believed that is far away for other creators where they must see this story made in 1978, to know what to do and what not to do in a slasher film. Films like Halloween or The Texas Chain Saw Massacre gave the main idea of creating powerful protagonists to lead this kind of stories and having a powerful, cruel, vile and ruthless antagonist against in principle happy, funny, but victim who must evolve and become an intelligent, strong and determined survivor is what I value most in this kind of stories, for me this is the main rule that must have these films to be a success, then there will be the other characters that may fall well or not, and you just wait to see their deaths in a great scene and thus applaud the work of the murderer in turn and is that these secondary characters are also important, the lovers, the nerd, the comedian, the sexy girl, the old man who is scary and advises not to go to the lake at night, you know are those characters that should not fail in this type of stories because they help just to develop a simple story, help to evolve and make you know the two main protagonists in this type of films.

Volviendo a los personajes importantes y los verdaderos protagonistas, creo que todos deben tener algo especial que los diferencia a cada uno de ellos, empezaré por Michael Myers que es el mejor personaje dentro de los Slashers; Myers es alguien el cual hasta el día de hoy no se saben cuáles son sus motivos para asesinar, ha sido definido como la verdadera presentación del mal, un hombre con extremada fuerza con la mentalidad de un niño que no sabe definir entre el bien o el mal y solo se expresa asesinando, esta puede ser una explicación algo psicológica (no soy psicólogo), pero la realidad es que Michael parece no tener motivos, puede estar en forma catatónica y de repente moverse y asesinar, nada sabe que lo activa o que lo detiene y eso es lo que ha marcado que sea muy difícil realizar varias secuelas y remakes porque siempre he pensado que al buscarle un motivo, arruinan la historia y el personaje; Jason Voorhees es algo parecido, puede ser definido como un muy violento “Niño de Mamá” y el asunto de volverlo un tipo de zombie que asesina el día de su cumpleaños, puede ser algo tonto, pero las escenas de las muertes pueden ser de buenas a ridículas y para ser sincero este debe ser el único slasher que no disfruto mucho de ver, siendo el primer film estrenado en el 1980 el que más me gusta por mantener en secreto quien sería el sobreviviente final: de Crystal Lake pasamos a Elm Street, Freddy Krueger es todo lo contrario y algo parecido a sus anteriores colegas, un ser infernal que le gusta hablar, acosar, vivir del miedo y burlarse de sus víctimas antes de asesinarlas con las cuchillas de su guante derecho; no hay duda que Freddy es el peor, porque a pesar de la curiosidad que muestra Michael después de asesinar, Freddy goza, disfruta plenamente de lo que hace porque sabe que siempre volverá, para mí es uno de los mejores villanos del cine; por último debo referirme a quien tomó el testigo de todos estos grandes personajes creados a finales de los 70’ y en los 80’ y han perdurado en el tiempo, Ghostface no existiría sin los antes nombrados y eso es algo que siempre aprecio en esta historia, aprecio que no exista lo sobrenatural, que sea real, que exista personas nada normales, que son igual de cruel como lo es Freddy, que tengan curiosidad y evolución como Myers y que aparezcan en cualquier lado como Jason, los portadores de la máscara de fantasma son excelentes personajes con muy buenos motivos, cada uno de estos asesinos de verdad que están completamente locos, pero sus motivos son buenos y eso es algo que siempre hay que reconocer y por eso para mí están en el top de asesinos del género slashers.

Going back to the important characters and the real protagonists, I think they all must have something special that differentiates each of them, I'll start with Michael Myers who is the best character within the Slashers; Myers is someone whose motives for murder are still unknown, he has been defined as the true presentation of evil, a man of extreme strength with the mentality of a child who does not know how to define good or evil and only expresses himself by murdering, this may be a somewhat psychological explanation (I'm not a psychologist), but the reality is that Michael seems to have no motive, he can be in catatonic form and suddenly move and kill, nothing knows what activates or stops him and that is what has made it very difficult to make several sequels and remakes because I have always thought that by looking for a motive, they ruin the story and the character; Jason Voorhees is something similar, he can be defined as a very violent "Mama's Boy" and the issue of turning him into a kind of zombie who kills on his birthday, may be something silly, but the death scenes can be from good to ridiculous and to be honest this must be the only slasher I don't enjoy watching, being the first film released in 1980 the one I like the most for keeping secret who would be the final survivor: from Crystal Lake we go to Elm Street, Freddy Krueger is the opposite and something similar to his previous colleagues, an infernal being who likes to talk, harass, live on fear and mock his victims before murdering them with the blades of his right glove; there is no doubt that Freddy is the worst, because despite the curiosity that Michael shows after murdering, Freddy enjoys, fully enjoys what he does because he knows he will always return, for me he is one of the best villains of cinema; Finally I must refer to who took the baton of all these great characters created in the late 70's and 80's and have endured over time, Ghostface would not exist without the above mentioned and that is something I always appreciate in this story, I appreciate that there is no supernatural, that is real, that there are not normal people, who are just as cruel as Freddy is, that they have curiosity and evolution like Myers and that they appear anywhere like Jason, the bearers of the ghost mask are excellent characters with very good motives, each one of these killers really are completely crazy, but their motives are good and that is something that must always be recognized and that is why for me they are in the top of killers of the slasher genre.

Valoro que este estilo de hacer cine que es rápido, lleno de clichés, con muy buenos villanos tengan un gran grupo de heroínas y es que las llamadas “Final Girls” son los que también elevan este tipo de historias; de nada sirve tener a un poderoso e imbatible asesino sin tener a alguien que sea lo sumamente inteligente, fuerte emocional y mentalmente que la haga poner a la par de quien quiere quitarle la vida y es que gracias a este tipo de films se creó una imagen de la cual muchas personas puedan motivarse para superar un trauma y por eso valoro y juzgo que si en un film slasher hay un gran villano, entonces también debe tener una gran contraparte, que también sea inolvidable que al momento de nombrar a cierto asesino, de forma inmediata relacionarlo con esa gran rival que nunca pudieron derrotar y que ella si los derrotó, por eso creo que mujeres como Ripley, Sarah Coonor, Sally Hardesty, Laurie Strode, Nancy Thompson y Sidney Prescott son únicas, representan fuerza, decisión, coraje, valentía, inteligencia; son personajes muy bien escritos y desarrollados que no se debilitan frente a nadie y eso hay que valorarlo mucho en este tipo de films que para muchos pensaran que no tiene un gran peso en el mundo del cine, pero créanme que son muy importantes.
