Our Milky Way - Mount Olympus

When ever I watch our galaxy filling up the night sky I always think about the fact that there are roughly 100 billion stars in our galaxy and there are roughly 100 billion neurons in a human brain. 

As above, so below. 

In September 2015, two friends and I hiked up Mount Olympus in Greece. On our first night up on the high plateau under the peak, we experienced one of the clearest night skies we had ever seen. The conditions where all perfect, a new moon, a dry atmosphere and high altitude. The sky was absolutely full of stars, every perceived gap between the stars if looked at closely only revealed more and more stars. And after sometime in that darkness our eyes started to adjust and reveal details in the landscape, illuminated by starlight only, the whole scene took on a magical quality. 

PS. The mountain on the bottom left of the photo is the second highest peak of Olympus and is nicknamed the 'Thrown of Zeus'.
