I am born in a time when if things are broken, I believe in mending it and not throwing it away and most of the people of my generation would do the same. But the times now are different, they are fast and changing rapidly. Relationships do not hold much of value and just like gadgets people get bored of relationships also fast. For the younger generation it is easy to shift from one partner to another without much of an emotional turmoil. I don't know if we can call them practical or lacking in emotions. Considering that the relationships have become so fragile in today's time, what do you think is marriage an ideal way to commit to each other.

A marriage is a bond that brings two people together and takes away quite a bit of themselves for each other. Being 27 years married, it has never been an easy ride. So many storms, and bumps on the way that they were more than enough to decide to part ways. But is it so easy to break this commitment. And it's just not for me, but for almost every couple in this relationship. Especially when you have children, then they become a priority then your own needs.

With all the complexities of the relationship of a marriage a lot of couples opt out for a little easier solution and that's where the live-in relationships come into picture where you are still in your space. I have no judgements for a live-in relationship or a marriage, both has its own pros and cons. I feel as far as two people come together in an understanding it is an ideal choice, then be it whatever. In the Indian culture a live-in relationship is not yet widely accepted and some even find it unethical. It would be a long time for the shift of the mindset to happen, probably another 2 to 3 generations down the line it may become a normal thing, but as of now surely it is not and it is frowned upon.

Both types of relationships have its own shortcomings. In a live-in, it is so easy to part ways without being much obligated towards each other. But if the couple has children, then it becomes confusing for the child. A marriage has its own charm with much self-learning that takes place in retaining the relationship, but in the bargain can take away a lot of your own wishes and desires. You can never exactly say which one is healthier, both of them can be a blessing and a chaos. I think at the end of the day it all runs down to you, as to what are you willing to give in that relationship.

If my son takes a decision to continue in a live-in relationship, I will not have any issues to that, but at the same time I would be happier if he gets married because that makes a bond more committed and stronger. This is my choice for sure and there is no right or wrong about it. So, what would be your choice?
