Hello! Every year, the night of October 31st brings joy to some and sadness to others—it all depends on our family traditions. A day of remembrance for those who have passed can also be a time to reflect on our own lives. For children, through play, we bridge the gap between the earthly world and the beyond.
I’ve noticed long ago that kids are often far more fascinated by something spooky and weird than by things that are sweet and gentle. Either way, it’s a wonderful occasion to face our fears: for children, it’s confronting the monsters under the bed; for adults, facing the fear of mortality.
So, I’d like to share a few things I made with my own hands for the themed celebration at our children's club. Store-bought decorations feel generic, but handmade items carry warmth. You still have time to create your own!

First, I decided to crochet a spiderweb. It turned out small, but it casts a striking, volumetric shadow on the wall that creates a wonderful sense of depth.
A colleague of mine said she didn’t want to spend money on pumpkins. So, I took one-liter glass jars, wrapped them in orange crepe paper, and pasted terrifying faces onto them. I plan to put candles inside to give the room an atmospheric, mystical glow.
Later, while sorting through my clothes at home, I found an old knitted sweater. I turned it into a collection of large and small pumpkins. Before that, I made some ghosts out of shiny tinsel and suspended them from the ceiling.

Today, the cleaner brought me large trash bags after I politely asked her. I folded the plastic several times and cut out a large spiderweb right in front of her eyes, placing smaller ones nearby later. She was so impressed by how striking it looked that she brought me three more bags! Honestly, I don't do this for the money; I do it because I genuinely feel a creative spark.
While working, I might just sit in my chair, gazing at the screen while waiting for visitors. Time is only as precious as how we choose to spend it. So, I use mine to channel my emotions into the world around me. My heart flutters with excitement when I don’t yet know how something will turn out, while my mind is already calculating new ideas with different materials. It turned out quite lovely...
Trick or treat? That’s a tough choice. I don't care much for sweets, but if I could choose a "death" to deceit and hypocrisy—that would be something truly worth picking.
What do you think?
