Parque Menca de Leoni

Hello, Hive community! Today I’m sharing another story about my experience as a teacher… On this first occasion, I’ll be accompanying the classroom teachers of 5“B”

‎A unique field trip.

‎We headed to the city’s “natural lung,” known as Doña Menca de Leoni Recreational Park. It’s a park in the Biruaca Municipality, Apure, located on the San Fernando–Puerto Páez National Highway. https://mapcarta.com/es/W1273806207

‎ It was named after Doña Menca de Leoni, whose birth name was Carmen América Fernández Alcalá. She was a prominent social activist and the first lady of Venezuela from 1964 to 1969, during the presidency of her husband, Raúl Leoni. Doña Menca de Leoni Recreational Park—it might seem that, as a native of this town, I should know all about this place, but the truth is that upon entering the park, I realized it had been quite a few years since my last visit—so long, in fact, that I didn’t remember it was home to such a wealth of flora and fauna.

There, we encountered animals and trees that were unfamiliar to both the children and the adults. along the trail we observed flowers and vegetation; the children were amazed, taking notes and creating memories to take home and tell Mom and Dad all about it—all while our guide, the park ranger “Bolívar”—so named by his coworkers—described every flower, tree, moss, and animal living in this habitat, which is respected and cherished by the locals. Although some of us may forget that this park even exists, the truth is that as soon as you enter, it disconnects you from the rest of the city; the entire environment changes—the air is full of oxygen, and the calm is surprising. The boys and girls really took ownership of the activity, since the outing was obviously theirs and for them. Caobo trees and red and white Samanes make up the majority of the vegetation.

‎A Story of Connection

‎A little further on, a “phenomenon” awaited us—one that lies at the eye of this hurricane of adventures and new experiences. This natural phenomenon is nothing more than a story of resilience, survival, and love: two trees standing 2 or perhaps 4 meters apart. One of them had a branch cut off—or perhaps it broke off due to its own weight or the winds at dawn—but despite everything, it continued to grow and regenerate its branch in a curious way, for it grew so much that it touched the other caobo tree right next to it; since they were of the same species, this facilitated the phenomenon, connecting the two trees with a branch that became an anchor between them. From this springs a very beautiful story that speaks of nothing but love.
‎

‎“That tree would easily be my home.”

‎ This was the children’s exclamation as they looked at one of the camorucos in the park; this tree is very tall and has some folds at its base, which resemble a perfect hiding place.
‎

‎Claiming Space

‎The Saman trees, along with others, naturally claim paths and land in their eagerness to continue growing until they reach the end of their lives
‎

‎Time for Us

‎Once the field trip was over, the children just as the trees had done claimed their free time, which they called our recess, since they had noticed that their recess time at school which they use to play and eat had already passed In the End When it was all over, they were able to enjoy their free time and savor the outing a little longer.
