It's been another boiling hot 40 degree day here today...
I worked an early shift in the Emergency, while the Little Man visited his Grandparents for the morning and my Other Half just tried to stay out of the heat at home. In the Emergency Department, there were not that many dehydration or heat stroke patients (I suspected they would come later). There were a number of people who went out last night and unfortunately treated alcohol as a form of hydration and suffered the effects of it this morning - not wise!
Back home and the lovely cat Connor is flaking out as far away from the heat as possible.
I didn't give the Little Man a chance to go to sleep for an afternoon nap that he was drifting off to - otherwise he would be awake throughout the night. I grabbed him and tossed some bathers on him and it was back into the paddle pool for water games and songs, with as many activities as I could devise. The house afterwards was a total war scene - covered with sand, water and toys that dropped on the way back in (yes - he made his way back to the sandpit as well).
I guess that lack of the control of the situation is what was special - at the moment the backyard is still a mess of toys and equipment; but does it matter? My mother always impressed onto me the importance of having everything organized, tidy and under control. Still, the spontaneous water games on a hot day kept him active (and me awake considering the lack of sleep lol). This house doesn't need to be perfect, the effort that makes a good house a home comes in many different forms...
