All of the kids in the classroom were working hard.
They had just 3 hours to paint a picture for a competition and an exam, to capture the schools new happy theme.
Jenni was working furiously - had never painted so hard in her life.
It was like she was possessed.
The teacher came over. "What is this?"
Jenni looked at her work: "It's my picture Mrs Walker"
"This doesn't capture the strength or liberty or independence that form this school! It's actually rather dark and morbid! It's a witch and an apple. It's straight out of Sleeping Beauty!"
"It's whatever you want it to be Mrs Walker. It's what I want to paint right now."
The teacher sniffed and turned away.
Two of the independent assessors looked at each other. They knew that the teacher would probably want to fail her - but actually the painting was really good. The very fact that a girl only 11 years of age could produce such excellent work displayed the very qualities they were looking for.
They had already decided: with this picture - they had a winner on their hands!
