Yesterday, I had an attempt writing in a competition that mentioned similarities to the movie "The Matrix"

It has been a long time since I've seen the movie and I didn't remember much of it; so I talked it through with my husband, who is a total 'Matrix' fanatic. He took me beyond the basic concepts of our current world being a simulation controlled by Artificial Intelligence and the real world is in 2199. I suspect, when I was watching the movie in the past, I was more interested in the action scenes and in the lovely forms of Trinity and Neo (Keanu Reeves is especially cute).

Today we pulled the movie out and watched with consideration to the concepts being worked in the movie. They were a bit too deep for me back in 1999 when the movie was released, now they are interesting and more relevant than ever.

Consider Artificial Intelligence. In times past, we have had a vague idea of what this encompassed. Now we are faced with it. The idea of machines fighting humans for supremacy (actually that is in a few movies). But the idea that the world we live in is actually created by them so they can have control in the real world. That machines will be able to think freely. That they are able to upgrade and evolve at an exponential rate, leaving humans way behind.

I think I have to watch the movie again, and again and again. It has become fascinating to me - 19 years after it's release.
