Hello Walkers!
This is my first post in this community and I thought I would share my recent walk around a nearby small German village festival that we visited. The village was celebrating its 900-year anniversary and there was a lot of excitement there.
The weekend festival was apparently 2 years in the planning and took place last weekend. We decided to go during the family event time on Saturday.
After walking for around a kilometer, we arrived at the festival and headed to the first attraction which was a fire engine. This was open for you (or the kids) to get in and have a look around.
The youth fire brigade was also sitting around giving out some goodies to kids and keen adults. They could make paper fire engines or do some coloring in.
There was even set up a water hose where you could practice shooting the water at some targets.
Nearby there was also a skate ring setup for scooters and skaters to go around and do a few laps.
A big highlight and keen attraction for my kids was the inflatable fire engine inflatable.
The weather was quite warm, but luckily there were some clouds to break the heat or it could have been quite unbearable. There were more fun and games setup for familes and kids to try out including football, an assault course and some craft activities.
I abandoned the family when I saw a tent in the distance. It wouldn't be a festival without a beer tent. The place was quite full with people enjoying beer, cakes, and some sausage and chips.
Exploring further, there were many stalls set up selling a variety of things from arts and crafts to a large variety of bio foods.
Walking further around, many people were getting some shade from the sun here and watching the cheerleaders training for their performance.
My son was enjoying the box slide that was set up.
It wouldn't be a family day out without some ice cream. Here I took a photo of the menu so you can get a feel of the options. The company is apparently Italian and it is homemade.
I opted for the mango, it tasted pretty good.
Back to the beer tent, I went and after being attacked by many wasps, made it safely inside. There is a local beer here that I have tried before and can recommend. Sales of beer were quite swift.
There were some speeches made by the mayor and it was also translated into french I presumed for some honoured guests from the twinned village in France.
The performance of the cheerleaders got underway and it was a fantastic show. Even their trainers do some tricks for the audience at the end.
There was then an equestrian vaulting performance by three groups from the local horse riding club. I haven't seen anything like this live before, so it was very cool to see.
As we were leaving, the next activity was starting which was a football match. Sports and club activities are a big part of life here in Germany and this was evident from visiting this village festival.
