These delightful moths are active during the day and much like their name implies are very much like hummingbirds.
They both consume nectar from flowers while in flight.
It's really a fantastic example of convergent evolution, where the environmental niche each species is exploiting gradually pushes them into the same behaviours and even body plans.
Hummingbirds are of course birds and from a completely different branch of the tree of life than insects yet the porportions of the body, the shape of the wings and feeding behaviours are very similar! The moths even have a "tail" that serves to control their flight just like the bird, most moths lack this kind of structure.
