INTRO

There are three types of attack in Splinterlands: melee, magic, and range. Melee attacks are close-range attacks and are typically positioned at the front. However, this concept can be altered by some abilities that allow melee monsters to attack from any position, such as opportunity, sneak, and reach abilities. Melee attack monsters are denoted by a circular saw blade icon.

The second attack type is magic, denoted by a purple thunderstorm icon. Theoretically, magic attacks directly reduce health, which means they bypass armor. Some battle rules and abilities can weaken magic damage, such as magic reflect, phase, void, and void armor.

Lastly, range attacks are denoted by an arrow icon. Typically, this type of attack is positioned in the backline, since monsters with this type of attack do not attack in the first position. However, the "close range" rule can alter this, giving range attack monsters the ability to attack in the first position. This week's challenge is about "close range," and we will discuss one of my battles using this rule.

Here is the link for my battle with close range attack.

BATTLE RULES

rule close range.jpg

  1. Fog of war - all monster will lose sneak, snipe and opportunity ability. Scattershot will still work on this battle rule.
  2. Close range - Monsters with ranged attacks are allowed to attack in the first position.
  3. Mana required is 36.
  4. Elements allowed for this battle are life and fire.

BATTLE LINE UP

For this battle, I picked life over fire. The reason is that I have better cards for this element for this battle rule.

BATTLE ANALYLIS

In conclusion below are the pointers that made my win.

  1. The ability that made my win here is the strengthen. I use 2 monster with this kind of ability, which negate the 2x redemption damage of Uriel. Using Uriel and having a backup monster with resurrect was a good strategy from my enemy.
  2. My Time Mage did also a great job here because of its slow ability. This was noticeable during battle 3 and 4 as enemy attack missis. Positioning Time Mage at the 4th position was a good plan.
  3. The use of Soul Fiend was not very helpful as this monster did not contribute damage nor have good health to tank damage and to support its backline on keep attacking.
