People say that some deep hurts in life take a long time to go away. But sometimes, all it takes is a little bit of respect from a stranger to fix months of silent pain. Last night, while standing at my hotel front desk during the quiet hours of my night shift, a sudden memory came back into my mind. It made me see how far Allah Pak has brought me today.

Old Days: Left Out in the Cold RainI still remember that dark night at the cloth shop. The manager there pushed me out into the heavy rain.

I had worked for twelve straight hours, my feet were hurting, and all I asked for was a small ten-minute rest. Instead of kindness, he insulted my hard work and told me I was nothing but a machine. I walked back to my small rented room that night with tears mixing with the rain on my face. I felt so small, so cheap, and completely helpless.

The Present: A Hand on My Shoulder

Fast forward to last night. My body was still a little bit weak after my three days of severe throat infection and burning fever. Around 2:00 AM, my energy dropped completely. My eyes were getting heavy, and I had to lean against the wooden desk just to keep myself from falling down.

I got super scared and jumped up fast. I thought it was a guest standing there. But it was just my main manager. He did not yell at me at all. He did not get mad because I was resting. He just looked at my white, sick face with real love.

He said,

Aftab, you are still weak from the fever. Go to the staff room, make yourself a hot cup of tea, and sit down for thirty minutes. We will look after the front desk."

Man, I swear my heart froze for a second. My mind immediately went back to that rude shop owner who treated me like dirt. And here was a boss who treated me like a real human being, like a family member. I walked to the breakroom, and while the water was boiling for my tea, a few quiet tears came out of my eyes. Those were tears of pure thanks to Allah.

What I Learned"

A bad office can break you inside. But a good place with respect gives you new power to stand up again."

By 4:00 AM, I was back at my desk with double the energy. I handled three late computer bookings with a massive, honest smile. My name is Aftab. I do a real job now. I am finally making a life with full respect here in Lahore. I am not that helpless boy in the rain anymore. I am a professional, and I am building my dream step by step.
