In Indonesian, a heat exchanger has a literal meaning of a heat exchanger. The scientific understanding of heat exchangers is a device that functions to transfer heat energy (enthalpy) between two or more fluids, between solid surfaces with fluids, or between solid particles with fluids, at different temperatures as well as thermal contacts. Furthermore, the heat exchanger may also serve as a heat dissipation tool, sterilizer, pesteurization, mixed separation, distillation (purification, extraction), concentrate formation, crystallization, or also to control a fluid process.
One of the most important parts of the heat exchanger is the hot contact surface. On this surface there is heat transfer from one substance to another. The more the total contact area that the heat exchanger possesses, the higher the heat transfer efficiency. Under certain conditions, there is one additional component that can be used to increase the total area of ​​this heat transfer contact area. The component is a fin.
