It is a tradition in some Asian countries where wish or sky lanterns are used during certain festivities or celebrations.
Special and personal messages are often written on these lanterns that are then launched into the sky. Doing this is supposed to bring good luck as well as to take away worries and problems.
These lanterns are nowadays no longer an exclusive practice. Non Asians also launch these lanterns into the night sky for fulfilment of hopes and also for fun. Fortunately, wish lanterns are now made with biodegradable materials.
