The plant requires little care and grows like a vine or creeper. My neighbour grows hers in a huge pot. She recently trimmed off almost the entire plant because the branches were spreading their tentacles everywhere entangling other plants. Not surprisingly, the butterfly pea flower plant was covered with green leaves and indigo flowers again in a matter of two weeks.
(Coloured sticky rice eaten with candied coconut shavings or coconut milk and egg custard)
We pick the flowers and just lay out on a cookie sheet to dry and then store in a airtight container. The dried flowers are used to colour desserts and drinks. I use the vibrant indigo colour for sago or sticky rice desserts.
There are also butterfly pea flowers that are white in colour and I see these creepers on some neighbourhood fences. These would be useless for colouring but could probably be used in some health drink.
