Scientific Name:
In the scientific world, this small butterfly is known as Chilades lajus. In English, they are generally called 'lime blue'.
Family and Genus:
According to the biological classification of the animal kingdom, this insect belongs to the order Lepidoptera. It is a species of the genus Chilades of the family Lycaenidae, commonly known as the blues.

Habitat and Distribution:
They are mainly distributed from India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Hainan, Mangulam Island, and Sulawesi to the Philippines. In our country, they are regularly seen around lemon orchards, shady environments of fruit trees, and bushes.

Food:
Their larvae or caterpillars mainly survive by eating the tender leaves of trees such as lime, pummelo, and Glycosmis arborea. Meanwhile, adult butterflies collect nutrition by drinking nectar from various flowers.

Reproduction:
They lay very small and pale green eggs on the tender leaves of lemon-family trees. The larvae hatched from the eggs grow on the leaves and complete their reproduction by transforming into pupae on the underside of the leaves at the appropriate time.

Benefits:
They play an important role in maintaining the balance of nature. Adult butterflies help in natural pollination while roaming around various flowers, which is helpful in increasing crop yields.

Harmful Aspects:
Their larvae cause some damage by eating the tender leaves of lemon trees. However, they are generally not considered major destructive pests or severe threats to crops.

I learned about them from various sites including iNaturalist, Wikipedia and Google.
