Mathematical learning difficulties are divided into three categories, namely: concept difficulties, principle difficulties, and skill (skill) difficulties.
a. Concept Difficulty
Studying concepts is the main thing in education, according to Ratna Willis Dahar (Rahmatiah, 2003: 11:
"Concepts are building stones (concepts) concepts are the basis for higher mental processes to formulate principles and generalizations to solve problems. A student must know the relevant rules and the rules are based on the concepts that are obtained ".
According to Rosser (Abdin, 2006: 15) that,
"Concept is an abstraction that has a setting", events or relationships that have the same attributes. While the culture in (Rahmatiah, 2003: 12) says that the concept is an idea or idea that is formed by looking at the same traits from a random set of examples.
b. Principle difficulty
Principles in mathematics are often also called principles as objects that state the relationship of two objects. The object can be in the form of facts, operating concepts or other principles.
The principle difficulty in working on math problems, especially often called difficulties in finding formulas or using existing ones. This is important, remembering in learning and working on math problems using formulas is very necessary.
c. Skill difficulty
The difficulty of the skills to operate numbers, usually occurs in students who are weak, so that they have difficulty and are less skilled in operating numbers. This happened because in learning the subject matter in elementary school students did not master the material given.
Inability to number operations and calculations that are not correct, it will produce the wrong answer.
