Yesterday took the family out to Oasis Mall, one of the oldest malls in Dubai on Sheikh Zayed Road. I remember when I used to go to this mall about 15 years ago and more, when I was living in the 'Deira' side of Dubai not far from Dubai International Airport, it was a trip that needed to be planned early on as the mall was literally outside the city and driving around 15 minutes into the open wilderness after passing through the last building in the city.
Yesterday, I had to drive on the way back around 15 minutes as I'm living now not far from Mall of the Emirates which is now considered as in the center of New Dubai, the extension of Dubai building over the past 1.5 decades has reached that much horizentally toward Abu Dhabi and on both sides of the Sheikh Zayed highway.
This shopping center used to be more crowded, now there many other shopping centers all over the city with some of them much bigger, the main brands are still here in addition to a food court and some cafes on the ground floor, a supermarket, and other facilities. The best of this shopping center is the free wifi with a good signal, seatings used to be everywhere before the pandemic measures, now only available in the cafes and on the 3rd floor where the food court is.
