9 days before Christmas there's a mass going at dawn. Starting from the 16th of December until 24. It's like an offering to the celebration before the birth day of Jesus Christ. It was first of course influenced by the Spanish since Roman Catholicism is a major religion here in the Philippines. Upon doing research "Misa de Gallo" means a "rooster mass." It says that when Jesus was born, a rooster was the first creature who worshiped God. You can read more here
However, in our country Philippines we call it "simabang gabi", it's a Tagalog word that means " night mass." Actually, the mass starts at dawn, 4 in the morning but at 3 in the morning the church sounds aloud Christmas songs to make the people awake because the mass is happening.
A lot of people went to church today despite the bad weather because the super typhoon is coming. I hope it will never be too strong to avoid the destruction that may cause it.
After the mass, there's food ready to be served sponsored by the local's donations. It's not an obligation since it was asked as a donation but considering it's part of the mass celebration.
People are willing to give a little since Christmas is about showing love and giving.
This is why the church is being decorated with colorful lights and decorations to make the church joyful to see. We are all aware of how much the people waited for this Christmas season. So people are giving their best to have the best Christmas even though it's happening yearly.
Also, we're thankful that covid seems to fade in our place and we can enjoy the spirit of Christmas.
