I've recently discovered a notebook of old poems of mine from about 20 years ago. Since I'm a bit sick and my mind is fuzzy, I thought I'd post one for your reading pleasure.
The Birth of Venus (c. 1879) by William-Adolphe Bouguereau
Goddess of Love
(09/10/02)Oh goddess of love why hast thou forsaken me?
Poems did I compose for thee and cried them from the rooftops.
Presents laden ships did I present at thy temple,
Heartened, as they were consumed in thy burning flames of passion.
Swore my love, my undying affection, in a thousand different ways,
Yet you, aloof from mere mortal love,
Did cupid send with burning arrows to slay your love.
In Hades do I weep for my misfortune,
Gazing without sight into Styx’s bloody waters,
Consumed by the ocean thou hast poured inside my soul
Using naught but your enchanting eyes and glamorous smile.
Oh goddess of love why hast thou forsaken me?
